This project challenged me to create a series of collages based only on a set of concepts — "collapse", "inside/outside", "near/far", and "ferocious". The objective was to represent each concept as well as possible using only shape, color, and texture.
After considering each concept, I made some sketches. Then, I searched through my collection of collage materials to find colors and textures I felt fit the bill. I referenced my sketches while working, often tracing or cutting out pieces as reference. "Ferocious" was so complicated I ended up cutting out its entire sketch to use as a set of stencils, destroying it in the process.
