Conceptualizing and creating a brand identity for myself was one of the largest design challenges I have ever faced. I began by examining myself as an artist and a person. I wanted to create a brand that reflected my personality, but I was afraid I would go too far and look silly. I spent a lot of time deliberating how to present myself professionally.
At some point, I realized that I would rather be seen as silly than be disingenuous to myself and my identity as a design artist. I leaned into my love of weird art, and created a wiggly hand-lettered logotype and colorful but slightly menacing jester cat icon. I contemplated several different types of iconography, but ultimately was most drawn to the jester cat because I felt it represented me best. Like a cat, I am often anxious and shy by nature. However, my drive to bring people entertainment through art allows me to put on the mask of a confident public speaker, even if it makes me feel a bit clownish at times. I also created a Turing pattern using Photoshop, which I used throughout my branding.
