This project's objective was to create a figure, human or animal, out of type. However, I also had to include a small piece of the original reference photo. I chose a raccoon since they're made up of so many fun blobby shapes. I then chose a silly phrase to match their mischievous trickster energy.
I began this piece by loosely tracing a photo of a raccoon, then tracing over the resulting shapes again with text. Then, I scanned my handwork, chose a typeface, and recreated my work digitally. I tried multiple options for the head and tail since they are the most characteristic features of the raccoon, and needed to be just right. I chose to include the raccoon's hands as the photo snippet since they're most relevant to my chosen phrase.
